So, the only facts come from the bible. By the way, the bible means what we/I think say it does.

Actually, it's not just atheists debating with Christians who have this problem. I'm a Christian (albeit a heretic, apparently) and I've hit that particular road block myself.

There's an even bigger difference. We can back up our assertions with facts.

You speak of facts as an intelligent person would. That is to say something like an observation that can be repeated or demonstrated.

For the creatards, the only "facts" come out of the bible. Everything, and I mean really EVERYTHING else is open to interpretation, and redaction.

Funny thing: I once talked to a minister who told me that for a "spiritually connected person" such as himself, the reading of the bible could provide information beyond just the printed words on the page. I didn't say it at the time, but I found myself wondering if he could pull a "how to" out of his back-side for changing out the clutch on a '71 AMC Gremlin.

Thomas:

The fundamental difference being that right-wing radio and fundie preachers aren’t nearly as polite as we.

@ imroy

While I agree that a hard core fundie cold but together an idea like that, they'd still be in square opposition to Muslim law.

The highest crime in Islamic society is apostasy. Swearing an oath on a bible would be a rejection of god and, was he to have ever claimed to be a Muslim, would be subject to a fatwa, a death warrant.

That having been said, I think we're going to see a renewed wave of right wing nonsense. They're going to experience something similar to the outrage we've been feeling for most of the last eight years. The fundamental difference being that right-wing radio and fundie preachers aren't nearly as polite as we.

Oh, Barack taking the oath on a bible is not a problem for the hard-core fundie. You see, because he's supposedly a Muslim, its not his holy book. So the oath isn't binding for him, or something, allowing him to carry out his evil anti-christ agenda and not be accountable to gawd. Or something.

Personally, I'd like to see such politicians have their left hand on a copy of the U.S. constitution.

Now that the election is behind us and the Obama Administration has become a reality, I'm generally surprised by the overall lack of enmity from those who forecasted gloom and doom a few months ago were he to win.

That's not to say the fantasy-driven community does not still exist. Monday my wife and I had a meeting with the woman who prepares our taxes every year. I made an innocuous comment about how things might get better this year or next, and she rolled her eyes and went into one of those patented "I've heard it on Rush Limbaugh so I know its true" diatribes we all know so well about how Obama supposedly bragged about how he'd never take an unscripted question from a reporter. Well, I knew better than to argue politics with the person helping me determine the size of my refund, so I let it pass. I'm sure she won't be the last, though.
