Obama's first few days of executive orders have been fantastic. I hope he can keep up the pace. I hoped that despite his being cordial to Bush personally, with his scathing rebuke of the entire Bush administration in his innauguration speech it was going to be a good week this week. I'm glad I was right.

On the other hand, although I wish he would take a stronger stand on the prosecution of Bush officials for violations of national and international law, it seems there are a few brave souls in Congress who are going to push this issue. Good. I somehow doubt that Obama will fight too hard against it if we can get a groundswell support for accountability. I know he doesn't want to personally have his administration overwhelmed with prosecuting the Bushies, but that's why we have the courts. It's not really the president's job anyway.

Nice picture, though Bush isn't competent enough to beg comparison to Nixon or even Hitler. Glad he's finally gone.

Brian - I feel ya. It was a small blizzard down here in NC today (well, by NC standards, that is -- I'm sure Minnesotans would call it Tuesday), so I worked from home and watched the innauguration. It felt good to see the adults take over. I also do not want to be blinded by his promises and ignore his actions. I don't think I will. My apologetic tendencies thus far have been more aimed toward people with the response of "would you give the guy a chance before bashing him?" I'm sure when he does things that piss me off (which he will), I will call him out on it. I love the change.gov thing so far. That's a bad ass idea whose time is overdue.

Kevin - I agree! That's one of the best morphed photos I've seen in a long time. My brain like keeps switching from one to the other, but it never looks obviously doctored, which it, well, obviously is. Whoever did that did a great job.

I’m not a sentimental person, by nature. It takes a lot to bring a lump to my throat. Today is a day I will remember for the rest of my life, and it was impossible for me to not be moved by what I just watched.

I’m uncertain which emotion is the strongest in me right now: hope that Obama can start to set things right or merciful relief that George Bush is no longer the President. I hope that in the next four years I am able to maintain a skeptical detachment about this administration I wanted to see in the White House so badly and not blindly give it a pass on everything it does. After eight years of sycophants and cronies, it would be tragic to repeat the same error.

The only difference was that Nixon did have some measure of success despite his dishonesty and paranoia. Bush doesn't even have that much!
