Equal Immigration Rights for Same Sex Binational Couples

I received the following email a couple of days ago from LV. I’m passing it on, since it may be of interest:

Hi, I’m a long-time subscriber of your blog, and I wanted to ask you to please pass the word around about Equal Immigration Rights for Same Sex Binational Couples. This idea is currently in 21st place on change.org, but it needs only [10] more votes to be part of the final 10 ideas presented at our event in Washington, DC!

This issue is very close to my heart. My visa expires in July of 2010, and although I am lucky enough that my employer agreed to sponsor me for permanent residence, I do have to go through mountains of paperwork, intense stress and worry, and thousands of dollars in order to be able to stay in this country. I have been in a committed relationship for 9 years with a US resident, and we are raising a child together. But I’m a woman, and she’s a woman, and even if we were somewhat legally married, our marriage wouldn’t extend to us those immigration privileges that heterosexual couples receive. Thousands of couples and families are forced to split or exile to more welcoming lands. It is heart-breaking.

Please make at least the tiniest mention of this topic and link. Thank you, Best Regards,

LV

Thank you again! The idea is now in 53rd Place and missing 3069 votes, so it could really use all the publicity!

I’m definitely extending you guys a vote. Some day soon, homosexuals will have equal marriage rights to us heterosexuals in this country. I honestly believe that and I am going to try to help as much as I can to help achieve it!

Done. Its nice to know that I was able, in some tiny way, to increase a fundie’s liklihood of having a cerebral hemmorage, especially when the cause is just.
