I wish I could find it online ( maybe it’s not public domain ), but the most disturbing RR photo ever features my mother and several other GE secretaries gazing adoringly into his eyes while one of the gals adjusts his tie and another plays with the hankie in his pocket. It’s practically pornographic and growing up with that in the house might explain a lot about me.

Of course, fundies and Repubs (increasingly indistinguishable, these days), if confronted with this, will say, “Well, it was a different time, he was younger, he needed the work… .” That’s if they’d even admit that there is anything wrong with pushing tobacco – which many politicians from Southern states refuse to do.

But let them come across a story involving a Democrat smoking pot – something far less harmful – and, all of a sudden, it’s a different story.

Thomas, we obviously share a mindset.

I smoked an untipped brand called ‘Capstan Full Strength’ in the UK and never had to give them away. There was a custom of sharing cigarettes then and it was considered rude to light up your own without offering yours around the group. I got lots of free smokes until my friends became wise to the ploy.

I got to the age when I no longer felt immortal and gave up almost thirty years ago. The sense of smug intolerance came almost immediately and gave a good insight into the fundie ‘mind’.

I’ve always been opposed to giving people cigarettes, not because they’re bad for you but because they’re expensive; I’m a chain smoker and I don’t want to give any of mine away.

I used to smoke unfiltered Highway brand just so people wouldn’t try to bum them from me.

And Ronald Reagan was a douchebag.
