Fundies are a real one-note symphony. They’ll keep on hitting that screaming high C (Obama Hussein Barack’s A MUSLIM!!!!!!!!), no matter how many times every one else rolls their eyes and plugs their ears. Obama could rise from the dead with holes in his hands and feet, with Jebus slapping him on the back and calling him “goodbuddy”, and the stoopids would still claim he’s a closet Muslim, because that’s the groove they’re stuck in, the only string left on their guitar. And of course, it’s just because they can’t say the “N” word. “Muslim” is just code.

Sue Blue-Earlier tonight, I saw a videoclip of a bunch of McCain supporters taking to the streets yelling things like “BOO Obama! Obama’s a Muslim! Obama’s a Muslim!” And shouting other things. I just stared and cringed.

The stupid. It’s painful. I honestly can’t understand how McCain would want to be associated with those lunatics, but then, I must remember, the lunatics make up a good percentage of his base.

I’ve also noted that any time McCain says something “positive” about Obama in front of the cameras, I swear I can practically see him gritting his teeth. It’s almost funny.

Your post made me think of a quote from Stigmata: “The Kingdom of God is inside you and all around you, not in mansions of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and I am there. Lift a stone and you will find me.”

I may by no means be religious…but, I wish that they’d take a sentiment like this to heart. After all, according to Christians, isn’t God everywhere? He doesn’t just exist in the church, right?

But of course, they like to justify it by saying the higher the steeple, the closer to Gawd, I’m sure.

It’s kind of a shame, because I will admit that I’ve always loved the beautiful Gothic architecture on some of the really old Catholic churches. But…since those beautiful Catholic churches are tax-exempt, and thus the rest of us have to foot the bill while they get a free ride…I suppose I should look at them in a different light.

But yeah, it would be nice that if the churches MUST get involved in politics, they should have to pay to get in. They shouldn’t get a free ride.

Have you seen those churches that rent out a little space in industrial buildings? That’s WJWD. Low cost, they get their god on, nothing fancy. Ridiculously fancy churches really miss the whole “point” of Christianity, at least according to their precious bibley — certainly not according to history.

I think enforcing the existing laws (such as removing tax exempt status when getting political from the pulpit) is good enough in this case. In addition, it might be good to crack down more on the MegaChurches that are only “non-profit” on paper. For example, extraordinarily large paychecks, non-religious structures on premises (gyms, swimming pools, and so on), fancy cars bought under the church’s name, revenue exceeding a certain amount (say, a million) with an unusually small percentage going towards actual charity work, etc., etc.
