As for Obama being sexist? Gimme a freakin’ break! All he’s said so far is something to the effect of “she seems like a competent choice” (which is the silly mandatory opponent praising found in politics) and “her family is off limits” (which is consistent with what he’s been saying all along about himself AND his oppoents).

It’s funny (and surprising) that they’re using the line that “Palin has more executive experience than Obama.” That’s true. She also has more executive experience than McCain.

So there are many good reasons to pick her. The sad thing is that she was the best choice and look at us? We’re gabbing away just like the silly pundits on the teevee! McCain won this round!

But, I still say, in the long run, McCain’s entire campaign will be an epic fail.

McSame didn’t pick her because she was Miss Alaska; he picked her to pander to the evangelicals.

QFT. I was trying to figure out this pick from a strategic standpoint, and this is the only theory I find plausible.

Sure, at first glance it looked like a crass play for disaffected chick voters, but since Palin is about as opposite Hillary as one can be without being made of antimatter, the Clintonista-poaching hypothesis doesn’t really hold up. And while I see validity in Brian’s “don’t hit a lady” idea, I think that benefit is offset by the fact that McCain’s choice takes away the inexperience card re: Obama. But if we consider that conservative street cred has always been one of McCain’s weak points, his modestly hot* veep starts to make sense.

Of course, for those of us who haven’t sworn a blood oath to the GOP, Mme. Palin is effing disastrous. I mean, personally, I find both major parties… distasteful, to say the least, and normally I’m loath to support what I see as merely the lesser of two evils. In this case, however, the Republican ticket is so blatantly evil that I have no choice but to throw in with Obama. (Hell, even the Obama who only exists in the fevered imaginations of right-wing nutjobs would probably be better than McBain/Huckabette ’08.)

* You know, the kind that are only sort of hot, so they don’t mess around with other guys.

And well…much of it didn’t surprise me. I could tell Sarah Palin was foaming-at-the-mouth batshit looney from the get-go. It isn’t any great revelation (to me, at least) that she’s a puppet for the Dominionists. (Have done some research on them. WAY scary.) Doesn’t make it any less sick-making or disturbing.

You just watch. Within the week someone from the McCain campaign, or perhaps McCain himself, will complain that his female VP selection is being criticized by the media and the left simply because she is a woman. They’ll say Obama and the democrats aren’t as friendly to women as they would like us to believe, and that republicans are the real party for women. Of course its all bullshit, but remember how stupid we Americans can be. Enough people will buy it, and what ought to be an obvious McCain weakness might very well turn out to be a surprising, if unjustified, strength. Count on it.

As laughable and bizarre I think his choice is…this is really an excellent point. As much as I HATE to admit it…I’ve actually gotta give McCain credit for taking such a huge gamble. The question is, will he get a lucky seven or a snake eyes? Time will tell. You said yourself Brian, never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Many times I’ve thought “Oh, come on. Nobody’s THAT stupid” And I’ve been proven wrong many a time.

Horribly, painfully WRONG, because I’ve seen many, many examples of human stupidity, and the sheer depths of our idiocy as a species still never ceases to amaze me.

Wow…McCain really didn’t think this through did he? I mean, yeah, she’s a good choice in the sense that she has a (for the most part) clean-slate, she’s female, and she’s young…but by picking her, he has killed one of his prime arguments against Obama! Then of course she has less experience than Obama and she won’t appeal all that well to Hillary voters.

There will be very few Hillary voters who would vote McCain just because he picked a female VP. They don’t stand for any of the policies that the Clinton campaign held during her running for the nomination. Maybe the really stupid ones will, but most will probably vote Obama simply because they both want the same standards set into play.

If this is the kind of cheese that McCain is putting out, I doubt he will hook many fish:

Last thing: Obama was leading about 8 points before he gave his acceptance speech…does anyone know if they’ve changed or do we have to wait until next week?
