Dog Bites Man

This was a typical headline today:

The real story is that people are still falling for this

Why is that news? They don’t start every day with the headline:

Earth Still Spinning on its Axis

Some things just aren’t news.

Pope Palpatine always looks tired. Lots of people have to contend with dark circles around their eyes. I don’t understand why nobody on his staff has ever slipped him a tube of concealer; there are so many great products now days, we no longer have to use that makeup for dead people.

Just came here to say that I live 20 minutes away from the Bay of Fundy. Found your site on Reddit :)

Ah, but this is a bizarre and news-worthy event. Alternate headlines:

“Leader of global child-molestation cabal makes public appearance, not arrested”

“Man in bizarre giant hat and Star Wars costume babbles about ancient zombie, not detained for psychiatric evaluation”

“Huge crowd spends weekend morning watching boring ritual conducted in language they don’t know, instead of sleeping in or having fun”

It’s just a matter of perspective.

You’re right. I almost wrote the story from that perspective, but that wouldn’t be news to readers of this blog.

It is bizarre that the reporters missed the obvious story. But since they chose to report it from the perspective that they did, there’s no story there. The story is that there is no story. Once again, the lame-stream media are not doing their job.

Where is the Easter Rabbot trampling the faithful in a glorious holocaust of splattered blood?

Meanwhile, the senior pastor of the Berean baptist church in Fayetteville, NC, made the news for preaching beating the gay out of kids. Why isn’t he in jail?

Off-topic: do you remember that post you did about the fundie dinosaur “museum”? The article you linked to lauded Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins, who is a creationist. You may recall that particularly galled me.

It appears Dr. Carson is in the news: http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2012/05/02/dr-ben-carsons-religious-beliefs-stirs-controversy-at-emory-university/
