You can believe in unicorns and leprechauns for all I care. You can gather together with fellow Zeus-worshippers in your living room every Tuesday night, and it wouldn’t chap my ass. I don’t care what nonsense you hold above logic and reason - as long as it stops at your own life. The anger we non-believers have is not for your belief - its for your insistence on inflicting it on our children in school, trying to pass laws to force this country back into the middle ages and turn every American into a superstitious peasant cowering in church every time there’s a solar eclipse or a meteor shower.

If your religion is so great, why do you feel so threatened by non-believers? Why don’t you go pray in your closet like your Bible tells you to, and leave the rest of us to deal with reality.

We don’t care what you believe. The problem is you creationists are trying to get your religion taught in the public schools.

Expelled is part of your campaign to convince the public that your religion is science. It isn’t science. Keep it in your church, and we’ll leave you alone. If you try to impose your beliefs on others, by way of the classroom, we will oppose you in every way possible.

If in the next several million years, long after we’ve extinguished ourselves, our planet produces another intelligent species that is capable of discovering that we were once here, I can only hope they manage to learn from our mistake of clinging to our myths and fables far past their sell-by date.

No, it doesn’t take much time at all to explain echolocation.

I would take a very ong documentary to even scratch the serface of either theory and their many subtheories.

I can summarize the “theory” of ID creationism is one word: Goddidit.

Huckabee was a supremely good executive and one reason for this was his open mindedness and quickness on his feet. He shows continually that he will stand for underrepresented viewpoint thoughtfully and skillfully.

Having said that, I have met a “fallen Job” atheist before (but they are rare). However, their atheism is not a result of not believing in God because it seems implausible. Their atheism is a result of being _angry_ with God for some tragedy — “How can God exist when there is so much pain in the world?” A conversion from this state of mind back to Christianity is hardly impossible, but I still contend “fallen Jobs” are rare. In fact, I have met only one.

Converting an atheist like Ron, if I may speak for you Ron, is not going to happen by reading the bible over and over because he requires evidence to believe something, and the bible does not provide any.

Having said all that, I’m agnostic and enjoy philosophical discussions of the “nature of the universe” (metaphysical “god” stuff) but I clearly separate those thought experiments and ponderings from the natural world. It does a disservice to humanity to conflate the two. You can not take a thought experiment on the nature of the “soul,” the “purpose” of life, the “reason” for the universe, and so on, and get hard numbers that are measurable and hence scientific. Additionally, those types of ponderings do not provide answers to the “how” questions. (How did life come into existence, how did the universe start, how will it end, etc.) That’s what science is for. When you rely on myth to answer those questions, you are just flat-out wrong.

You remind me of Philosophy teachers all across this nation who belittle and threaten their Christian students in front of their peers.

The burden of proof is on the person making the claim. You claim that the Bible is true, therefore it is up to you to provide that evidence.

By the way, the Intelligent Design creationists claim that their designer isn’t God, yet here you are coming on here and telling me that the designer is God. I wish you folks would get your story straight.

I, too, am tired of this debate. I wish the creationists would admit defeat and go home.

Scientists have admitted for a long time that we don’t know how it got started. That’s a separate issue from evolution, which is merely how speciation occurs.

Many religious people don’t feel a conflict between the two sides. Evolution is how God created species, including humans. I don’t believe that myself, but there is no evidence to contradict that. I would be thrilled if all creationists settled on that belief.

But, no, that is not what Mike Huckabee said in the debate last summer. In that debate, he was extremely wishy washy, not wanting to commit to anything. In the video above, now that he is no longer a candidate, he speaks more freely. He claims that Goddidit, that evolution didn’t happen, and there’s lots of proof (which he doesn’t provide).
