Mike Huckabee: No Intelligence Demonstrated

I was really hoping we had managed to lose this retard, at least for another four years. But like all bad ideas, he keeps coming back. Here is Mike Huckabee shilling for Ben Stein:

(YouTube page is here.)

He claims there is “growing evidence of intelligent design”. Really, Huck? Then why didn’t you provide any? In fact, why don’t they provide any in Expelled? They have an entire movie. From what I have heard (and I’m willing to stand corrected), they don’t spend any time in the movie providing any evidence for ID creationism. They spend all of their time whining about not getting a seat at the grown-ups’ table. Then they throw a tantrum and falsely link the fact of evolution to the horrors of the Holocaust, as if the latter somehow disproves the former.

Tell you what, Huck. When you learn what real science is, then we’ll “open the doors”.

Holy crap! This guy was a viable presidential candidate!

I agree. I have heard and read in several reviews that this film does nothing to explain either ID or evolution.

I have read that the majority of the movie is spent trying to frame the impression that evolution equals atheism, and that the theory of evolution, if not the cause, it was a causitive factor in the perpetration of the genocide by Hitler in WW II.

Evolution is based on the belief system of naturalism, which is unproven and unprovable. It is not operational science which must be observable, testable, and repeatable.

All scientists have access to the same data, but the difference in views is based on presuppositions which affect interpretation. Those who hold to evolution should clearly articulate their presuppositions. This movie is trying to keep people honest and show that their is a clear bias for evolution and against other theories. Let there be honest and open debate.

All science is based on the premise that the Universe is observable, and that conclusions can be inferred from those observations. Evolution is one of the most observed, tested, repeated, and proven sciences of them all.

Those who hold to evolution should clearly articulate their presuppositions.

We do. The Universe is observable, and conclusions can be inferred from those observations.

…their [sic] is a clear bias for evolution and against other theories.

No. There is no bias. Evolution was tested fairly and has reached its stature purely on its own merits. And no, there are no other theories. There are religious myths, but there are no other viable scientific theories about the origin of species.

This movie is trying to keep people honest…. Let there be honest and open debate.

Oh yeah. Falsely linking the fact that species evolved to Hitler’s atrocities is the pinnacle of open and honest debate.

  4. Parrotlover77 Says:

So scientists should ignore all precedent, no matter how many thousands of times it’s been verified, so as to not have any “presuppositions” when analyzing data which supports evolution. If that is the case, how come fundies can continue to use the bible? It’s “theories” on animal and plant species (and creation and life, etc.) are even older than Darwin’s. They are presupposing everything in that book is correct before they even read it.

  5. Shannon Says:

Typical of atheists to call someone who doesn’t agree with them a “retard”. What a thoughtless thing to say. I would never call you that, just because you don’t agree with me. You remind me of Philosophy teachers all across this nation who belittle and threaten their Christian students in front of their peers. I’m glad that Jay Sekulow is around to take people like you to court and win. As for Evolutionary theory, I seem to remember many “Discoveries” that were later to be proven false, mere hoaxes. Like the Piltdown man(created from the tooth of an extinct pig), or how about that transitional reptile/bird thing that National Geographic covered a while back, and then they had to publish an apology to the scientific community because it had been found to be a fraud? People like you have to resort to nastiness to try and stifle debate. What a sad little person you are.

  6. Ron Britton Says:

    Shannon:

I only call them retarded when they are incorrigibly stupid, beyond all hope of rescue. Evolution has been proven. The evidence is overwhelming, and it’s everywhere. We aren’t hiding it, the way the ID creationists are apparently hiding all (any!) of their evidence.

I can’t imagine why Jay Sekulow would like to take me to court, but he’s welcome to do so. I guess you can sue people for disagreeing with them? That statement sure shows the grasp you have on reality.

So because science is self-correcting, it’s wrong? What are we supposed to do? Come up with one story and not change it for the rest of eternity? Sorry, your religion has that gig sewn up.

What’s really funny is that you can’t even get your hoaxes correct. Piltdown man was constructed of a modern human skull and an orangutan jaw. Nebraska man was constructed out of a pig’s tooth. What a retard! What a sad little retard you are.

I am very tired of the Evolution vs. Creation debate. Many scientists have done the research and have decided that it couldn’t have just all started on it’s own. Why can’t both sides just admit that no one on earth knows exactly how it all started or developed. Has it occurred to anyone that God could’ve created everything through the process of evolution? Oh, wait…. that’s pretty much what Mike Huckabee said in a debate last summer!

  8. Ron Britton Says:

    Lisa:

I, too, am tired of this debate. I wish the creationists would admit defeat and go home.

Scientists have admitted for a long time that we don’t know how it got started. That’s a separate issue from evolution, which is merely how speciation occurs.

Many religious people don’t feel a conflict between the two sides. Evolution is how God created species, including humans. I don’t believe that myself, but there is no evidence to contradict that. I would be thrilled if all creationists settled on that belief.

But, no, that is not what Mike Huckabee said in the debate last summer. In that debate, he was extremely wishy washy, not wanting to commit to anything. In the video above, now that he is no longer a candidate, he speaks more freely. He claims that Goddidit, that evolution didn’t happen, and there’s lots of proof (which he doesn’t provide).

  9. Edfutbol Says:

You want proof – the read the Bible. I DARE YOU to disprove it. If you are SO SURE of your evolution – then read it and disprove. I CHALLENGE YOU to do it!
I – just like you , was once gun-ho on evolution, naturalism, atheism etc… Well – I read it and studied it (for 6 years) ONLY wanting to disprove it and SHOW up all the religious freaks. Guess what – I found the answer and now I know the truth. I guess I was a retard – but now – I am FREE!!

  10. Ron Britton Says:

    Edsoccer:

The burden of proof is on the person making the claim. You claim that the Bible is true, therefore it is up to you to provide that evidence.

By the way, the Intelligent Design creationists claim that their designer isn’t God, yet here you are coming on here and telling me that the designer is God. I wish you folks would get your story straight.

  11. Parrotlover77 Says:

You remind me of Philosophy teachers all across this nation who belittle and threaten their Christian students in front of their peers.

    Name one.

    I hate urban legends.

  12. Parrotlover77 Says:

Edfutbol = fake atheist pretending to be converted. I’d wager good money this person was never atheist.

Having said that, I have met a “fallen Job” atheist before (but they are rare). However, their atheism is not a result of not believing in God because it seems implausible. Their atheism is a result of being _angry_ with God for some tragedy — “How can God exist when there is so much pain in the world?” A conversion from this state of mind back to Christianity is hardly impossible, but I still contend “fallen Jobs” are rare. In fact, I have met only one.

Converting an atheist like Ron, if I may speak for you Ron, is not going to happen by reading the bible over and over because he requires evidence to believe something, and the bible does not provide any.

Having said all that, I’m agnostic and enjoy philosophical discussions of the “nature of the universe” (metaphysical “god” stuff) but I clearly separate those thought experiments and ponderings from the natural world. It does a disservice to humanity to conflate the two. You can not take a thought experiment on the nature of the “soul,” the “purpose” of life, the “reason” for the universe, and so on, and get hard numbers that are measurable and hence scientific. Additionally, those types of ponderings do not provide answers to the “how” questions. (How did life come into existence, how did the universe start, how will it end, etc.) That’s what science is for. When you rely on myth to answer those questions, you are just flat-out wrong.

A common misperception of eXpelled is that it is supposed to explain ID and ecolution, it is not. I would take a very ong documentary to even scratch the serface of either theory and their many subtheories. What it is supposed to do is show how the discussion is being stifled by one group over another.

Huckabee was a supremely good executive and one reason for this was his open mindedness and quickness on his feet. He shows continually that he will stand for underrepresented viewpoint thoughtfully and skillfully.

  14. Ron Britton Says:

    Chuckmaty:

No, it doesn’t take much time at all to explain echolocation.

I would take a very ong documentary to even scratch the serface of either theory and their many subtheories.

I can summarize the “theory” of ID creationism is one word: Goddidit.

Is there some Christian “Demonstrate your Stupidity on the Web” day that I didn’t know about? Jesus, you can’t swing a dead saviour on this thread without hitting a dumb Christian. Do you people seriously buy the crap you’re trying to feed us? What am I saying? Of course you do.

If in the next several million years, long after we’ve extinguished ourselves, our planet produces another intelligent species that is capable of discovering that we were once here, I can only hope they manage to learn from our mistake of clinging to our myths and fables far past their sell-by date.

  16. Barbie Says:

Wow, I sense alot of anger. Why are you so concerned about our beliefs? Why does it bother you so much? If you do not belief we do not care. But have some respect for others. “A Fool Says Their is No God”. You are all acting just like Fools. Rambling on with your meaningless opinions. Stop wasting your time. Find something more constructive to do.

  17. Ron Britton Says:

    Barbie:

We don’t care what you believe. The problem is you creationists are trying to get your religion taught in the public schools.

Expelled is part of your campaign to convince the public that your religion is science. It isn’t science. Keep it in your church, and we’ll leave you alone. If you try to impose your beliefs on others, by way of the classroom, we will oppose you in every way possible.

  18. Sue Blue Says:

    Barbie:

You can believe in unicorns and leprechauns for all I care. You can gather together with fellow Zeus-worshippers in your living room every Tuesday night, and it wouldn’t chap my ass. I don’t care what nonsense you hold above logic and reason – as long as it stops at your own life. The anger we non-believers have is not for your belief – its for your insistence on inflicting it on our children in school, trying to pass laws to force this country back into the middle ages and turn every American into a superstitious peasant cowering in church every time there’s a solar eclipse or a meteor shower.

If your religion is so great, why do you feel so threatened by non-believers? Why don’t you go pray in your closet like your Bible tells you to, and leave the rest of us to deal with reality.
