Planned Abortionhood

It's not your choice, it's a fundie's

(I know what I wrote yesterday about scaling back the blog, which I am doing, but this is a quickie.)

Over the last few months, I’ve received a barrage of fundie emails about Planned Parenthood. The puppetmasters were trying to get all of their followers to barrage Congress with demands to stop all federal funding of Planned Parenthood. The House Republicans proudly showed us all how much power the Jihadist branch of Christianity still has over the GOP by voting last week to defund Planned Parenthood. Fortunately, there was enough rationality (and Democrats) in the Senate, and the attempt failed for now.

Many of the emails I received have been overly dramatic:

Planned Parenthood takes trillions of your tax dollars every year to murder billions of babies!

OK, maybe not quite that hyperbolic, but that’s really not too much of an exaggeration.

Actually, it's the fundies who are unstoppable
P-1000 Pregnancy Terminator

The fundies like to portray Planned Parenthood as a ravenous abortion machine, whose sole purpose is to wander loose among the general population, scanning all women it encounters. Any woman found to be pregnant is immediately be subjected to a forced liquid-metal abortion. And all of this is just to make the Planned Parenthood abortion doctors filthy, stinking rich.

I wrote an article three years ago about the true economics of abortion and what Planned Parenthood really does with the money. Today I found an article in the Washington Post titled “Five Myths about Planned Parenthood”. Here they are:

  1. Planned Parenthood’s federal funding frees up other money to pay for abortions
  2. Ninety percent of what Planned Parenthood does is provide abortions
  3. Defunding Planned Parenthood will reduce abortions
  4. Planned Parenthood serves only teenagers and prostitutes
  5. People don’t really need Planned Parenthood

You should go read the article for the details.

The article is excellent. The comments below it, however are troubling. Even when given the truth, a fundy will refuse it accept it and will instead immediately start attempting to refute and/or ignore it.

  2. Jeff Says:

Absolutely. This is the reason I always say there is no point in talking to them. They cannot be reasoned with; they can only be managed.

  3. Ron Britton Says:

I just looked at some of the “reader” (“reading” implies comprehension of what the eyes just scanned, so I guess that’s not the right word to use here) comments. Here are a few.

    I love this fundie comment:

1 myth about the New York times 5 myths section.

The biggest flaw in this statement is the article is from the Washington Post. Fundies are so divorced from the facts (I thought they hated divorce!) they don’t even know where they are.

GRRRL POWER! Women should be able to kill their children if they are inconvenient! Disagree with me and you are a bigot and hate women! YOu probably don’t agree with obama eithers, so you must be racist! Let’s go celebrate Hamas now, as our islamists darlings love everything we love, like abortion and gay rights!

That’s the fundie attempt at irony. Not subtle. Exactly what you would expect, because they see the world in black and white; therefore, subtlety and nuance are beyond their capabilities.

Practice safe sex or abstinence and pregnancy doesn’t happen…

How are women supposed to know what safe sex is? Fundies won’t let it be taught in the schools. Except for abstinence-only sex education, of course, which just leads to more pregnancy, which leads to more abortion.

why should they have to pay for someone who chooses not to exercise self-control?

That’s really what it boils down to. Fundies want complete control over our sex lives. Plus, that comment completely mischaracterizes the women who go to Planned Parenthood.

  4. sue blue Says:

Come on, everybody knows that by cutting Planned Parenthood off from the TRILLIONS of TAXPAYER dollars and blood it sucks down every year, the Federal deficit will disappear, millions of jobs will be created and all economical problems will disappear! That’s right – those teenage crack whores are the sole reason that the country is in a depression. That, and unions. And gays. And Mexicans. And stuff.

  5. Parrotlover77 Says:

The biggest flaw in this statement is the article is from the Washington Post.

That is brilliant!! So brainwashed by Glenn Beck, this commenter just assumed that any article that is pro-Planned Parenthood could only come from the NY Times. It’s just delicious irony that the article is from the Washington Post, a Rupert Murdoch owned and Glenn Beck Approved (TM) news source.

  6. Ron Britton Says:

PL, are you sure the Washington Post is a Murdoch paper? I thought it was still independent.

  7. Jeff Says:

I’ve discovered in my my old age that I’m a segregationist. They need to be sequestered online as well as in corporeal reality, so the rest of us can converse intelligently without having to deal with them, and get on with the business of helping humanity to make as much progress as it’s capable of making (which, at this point, I don’t think is all that much).

    We could call it “IdiotWeb”.

  8. Parrotlover77 Says:

@Jeff – For a second there, you almost — almost — sounded optimistic. Luckily, you ended on your usual sour note. Oh, Jeff! How you make me smile.

@Ron – You are correct. I was confusing Wall Street Journal and Washington Post. I withdraw my earlier Murdoch comment. Washington Post = Kaplan. I need to get my Teabagger/Galtian Overload properties straight.

As for the article comments, you can count on fundies to come swarming out of the woodwork for any piece like this in a high-profile venue. Without comment moderation, any reality-based discussion will be drowned out by the befuddled robots mumbling their talking points.

  13. Sue Blue Says:

The GOP Overlords fart, and their brown-nosing minions interpret the sphincter-flapping as actual words and distribute them to the drooling retard masses via Fox News, Wing Nut Daily, et al. Doesn’t make sense? You have to have the secret magic Republican Beer Goggles, as seen on Fox News. Just slip them on and take a look! One glance turns turds into tulips (and lowers your IQ by twenty points).
As for the rest of us, we all know that a roomful of assholes is going to stink like shit. Just lately, the whole country’s starting to smell like a septic system backup. When are all these old white Repuke gasbags going to start dying off?

  14. Ron Britton Says:

    Sue Blue:

Just lately, the whole country’s starting to smell like a septic system backup.

It’s time to bring in an expert. Now I know why Canada doesn’t have any Republicans.

    Winston Rothschild

  15. Jeff Says:

When are all these old white Repuke gasbags going to start dying off?

It’s that Congressional healthcare plan – you know, the one they keep renewing for themselves, while claiming we can’t afford even lesser coverage for the rest of us. Keeps ‘em going forever.

and lowers your IQ by twenty points

    I think that’s a very generous estimate.

  16. Parrotlover77 Says:

I personally think that the racist conspiracy theorist teabagger republican demographic is so loud right now because they are dying off. It’s sort of the death throes of these assholes. Just go back and look at the footage of any teabagger rally from the past few years. The average age is 70. In ten years, the demographics of likely voters is going to be very different.

What’s particularly brilliant about the latest Republican shoot-itself-in-its-foot strategy (taken directly from the Dem’s playback, I might add) is that they campaigned on saving medicare against Obama’s death panels, but have now been put on record for literally ending medicare because of Ryan’s insane budget plan.

Democrats are well-known for self-injury, but the Ryan Gambit blows away anything of recent memory the Dems have done to hurt themselves.

Of course, not to be outdone by Republicans, Massachusetts Democrats voted to end collective bargaining for health care in their state for public employee unions. Democrats, even at the state level, just can’t have the Republicans beating down its own base better than them! Even I, the biggest O-Bot / Democrat Apologist / Suck it up and vote for the lesser of two evils person I know, thinks the Mass Dems need to go for this one.

As a result of this and not receiving enough ponies and glitter from Obama and other federal Democrats, the Firefighters union has decided to withdraw support from all federal candidates, take their balls, and go home. Because doing so will clearly help them get more union-friendly representatives and legislation from the Republicans taking those Dems’ places.

They could have, say, supported new strong union candidates and withdrew individual support from bad anti-union Blue Dog Dems. But doing something nuanced and thoughtful like that would be crazy and wouldn’t get the whiney anti-Democrat headlines that Democrats so crave.

Well, hopefully the Republicans win the Fucking Themselves race. Really, neither Mass nor the Firefighters Union issues are particularly unique to this coming election for Democrats (we’re always finding way to screw ourselves) so maybe the new Republicans fucking themselves strategy will tip the balance.

  17. Jeff Says:

the Mass Dems need to go for this one.

Everything we do up here is totally fucked up. It’s one of the reasons I want to move.

Humans are notoriously self-destructive. That business about lemmings rushing headlong en masse over a cliff is fictitious; tragically, when it comes to us, it isn’t.

  18. Rivendusk Says:

    @Parrotlover77

The nation’s economy is starting to come back, which will, little by little, remove the wind from the Tea Bagger’s sails.

As you mentioned, they will become more extreme as their situation becomes more desperate, the grains of sand slipping through their grasping fingers.

In the meanwhile the windfall from all this hysteria is the thinking public that were staunch republicans have, after being repeatedly disgusted and alienated by their own party have started to refer to themselves as ‘moderates’. This is good because that is a growing percentage of folks that are finally starting to open their eyes and have a look around.

It must be a frightening transition.

  19. Sue Blue Says:

Here’s another turd in the cesspool, another withered white husk who thinks having a penis, no matter how vestigial, gives him the right to dictate what happens in a woman’s uterus.

But let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he actually doesn’t give a squeaky shit about abortion; it’s just something to boost his Repub street-cred. He’s just another political whore out to pack his pockets by doing whatever he has to to keep the slobbering retards voting for him. Meanwhile, he’ll just keep his wheezy old heart pumping via the best doctors and hospitals he can find, paid for by his government health-care plan – you know, the socialist, unaffordable, totally evil and unconstitutional taxpayer-funded plan that the rest of us don’t deserve somehow.

  21. Bacopa Says:

Most people might not know it but guys can use planned parenthood too. I had a little STI problem a fews years back and no insurance. Got things straightened out for a low upfront cash fee.

I’m glad this whole fundie sting operation against Planned Parenthood hasn’t gotten a lot of traction.

  22. Parrotlover77 Says:

It may not be catching on to the public as a whole, but where fundies (or their enablers) are in power, damage is still being done. Indiana is in real trouble right now.

Basically, poor women and men in Indiana are going to be required to die for the governor’s political ambitions of losing to Obama in 2012. It’s not hyperbolic to say people will die. When your only source of preventative reproductive health care is taken away from you, your only choice is to not go at all, until you can afford it.

    It’s quite sad.

  23. Rosita Says:

When will the Right to Fright ever learn that their god is responsible for a thousand times more abortions a minute than medical abortion clinics arrange. Science estimates that as much as 50 percent of ALL pregnancies ends in abortion, usually before the woman even knows that she is pregnant.

If abortion is so evil why don’t those who believe it is murder petition their god to stop doing it? Isn’t this god supposed to do what they ask if they pray with enough faith? Ah, that’s it: they lack enough faith so it’s their fault he keeps on sinning.

  24. Parrotlover77 Says:

Rosita – Your argument is sound and logical. Therefore, it is a losing argument against fundies. I can already hear the reflexive utterance of, “it’s all a part of his plan.”

Remember kids, when God commits mass genocide or causes extinction level events, it’s all a part of his loving plan. When humans perform a legal, safe, and moral medical procedure, they are committing murder.

This comment is brought to you by the letter B, the number 5, and Jeff’s pessimism.

  25. Jeff Says:

You call it pessimism. I call it realism.

  26. anti_supernaturalist Says:

    • The real issue — social control

Fundie xian males, like their fundie muslim and jewish brothers, shudder at a technological world in which mental agility has replaced physical strength as the core measure of economic utility.

This reordering of values strips away a ancient core faith-based lie: god-ordained male supremacy.

Unresolved to this day is a decades long struggle over gender equality — equal productive and reproductive rights.

Whom does The House and Senate back? The relevant group, women themselves, tens of millions of them?

Or white male second-hand-god salesmen? Spewing pro-birth at any price. One hundred year old social darwinism tarted up as “family values”.

Fundies are obvious offenders, but RCs run a close second.

Women’s aspirations, self realization, reproductive self-determination must be crushed by direct force.

Xian domestic terrorism, like muslim domestic terrorism, humiliates, intimidates, and batters women back to submission.

Protected by complicit federal and state officials, cells of xian thugs have been targeting women and their humane values for decades.

Fundie irrationality drives scientific knowledge about sex from America’s schools just as it drives medical research abroad.

Xian political ideologues must eventually embrace state totalitarianism. Their “truths” can never win popular support. An open society will repudiate their nihilism composed of literalist lies, morally repugnant beliefs, and puritanical rules.

JR: You need to read more about Sanger, particularly the era she lived in, and the infant mortality rate at the time.

Back then, many children died during the first year of their lives, especially if they were born into poor, large families.

    Modern medicine wasn’t affordable then.

  32. Lindsay Says:

Well, we could always talk about Michele Bachmann. Unfortunately, she seems to have her shit together and enough momentum to possibily be the top GOP candidate.

  33. Coty Says:

Actually, that’s probably a good thing. A Michele Bachmann (possibly even a Bachmann/Palin run) would ensure another Obama term.

  34. Parrotlover77 Says:

I agree. Bachmann is a terrible general election choice for the GOP. Right now she’s polling interesting close numbers in some areas only because most people have no idea who she is. Her handlers have been very good at reinventing her. Once she gets associated back with all her previous gaffes, of which she has many, it won’t be long before those numbers settle into Palin territory.

My favorite name for Backmann right now is “crazy eyes.” She really does have a creepy stare. *shudder* Google “crazy eyes bachmann” for good fun.

Anybody want to take bets on how many “rent boy” incidents will be uncovered from Bachmann’s hubby’s past should she take the primary?
