I have no delusions about convincing a creationist to abandon his just-so story and accept the scientific explanation. I'm after the millions who are unsure. Maybe their science education wasn't so good, or maybe some of the plausible-sounding arguments from the Discovery Institute have sowed some doubt. If they come here and I can show them how the creationist stories have no factual basis, maybe they will start to understand how science really works and that we really do know all of the things that we say we know. It's so sad that W is giving Methodists such a bad name (him being one). Very few are "fundie." And I will say with some pride that I have since forwarded it to a friend of mine who has been decidedly on the fence regarding ID / creationism vs. evolution. The result? This friend made the following comment to me: "You know, Brian… I've never ever seen evolution explained to me in such a way before. And having seen this video and watched it 3 or 4 times, all I can say is… it seems so obvious to me now." Wow… hence the power of knowledge! THAT is exactly why this site and others like it is SO VERY IMPORTANT. Most of the problem is that so many people just don't understand the basic principles behind evolution. We are SO far behind with basic education in this country that most people I ask about evolution respond with "Oh, yeah… that's the Darwin thing… he said we came from monkeys". And that's the amount of thought that goes into it. And most of them will simply not buy the concept based on that simplistic and crass an observation. It's on some level repugnant to them. But SHOW them this… and then you can actually get them to understand how evolution works… and as my friend stated… it seems so obvious! Keep up the good work, Ron!
