Christians United for Israel

John Hagee is senior pastor of the 19,000-member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. He has his own worldwide TV/radio ministry, which is rather egotistically named the John Hagee Ministries. As bad as all of that is, his real claim to infamy comes from the fact that he is the founder and national chairman of Christians United for Israel (CUFI).
CUFI believes that the modern state of Israel is prophesied in the Bible, and that it’s one of the signs of the impending end times. They want to do everything they can to help the end times along.
To expedite this, they want to do everything possible to help Israel, even if that means starting a war with Iran! A number of politicians, such as John McCain, have been sucking up to these people (don’t vote for McCain!). Their biggest political supporter is … can you guess? … wait for it … yes, it’s Joseph Lieberman! Yes, Joe Lieberman, the senator from Israel Connecticut, who has never done anything good for the people he represents, yet somehow manages to accomplish quite a lot for Israel.

CUFI is opposed to any peace in the Middle East that involves Israel giving up land. To their mind, God promised that land to Israel, so that settles the matter. It boggles my mind that anybody can be opposed to peace in the Middle East, but this is what happens when you allow fundamentalists to gain political power.
Here’s a report on CUFI from Friday’s Bill Moyer’s Journal. (This link will take you to the PBS site.)

Thanks for the post. This is a group I’ve never really understood, and it is nice to hear more about them.

If anyone cannot understand why atheists speak out against religion instead of minding our own business, it is because of absolutely insane, delusional groups like this one that wants to destroy every last human being on this planet in pursuit of their fantasy. I have no doubt that if one of these end-timers made it to the White House the bombs would be dropping before the inaugural parade was over.
There are no words that can be employed when engaging these people except those of scorn and ridicule. Anyone who is dumb enough to say “But the Bible says that blah, blah, blah…”, is a person unworthy of our assumption of rationality and instead demonstrates a childish worldview that reason cannot penetrate. Groups like CUFI literally believe that Jesus will return any day with magical superpowers and that they will poof out of existence en masse and appear in Heaven, looking down on the rest of us, relishing our misery. There have been thousands of religions that have believed in patently absurd things in our history, but this must surely be not only one of the most ludicrous tenets of faith but also the most odious.
Religion is an infection of the human mind. It spreads, virus-like, from one gullible rube to another (or from one defenseless child to his defenseless child years later, like the Duggars), dulling our thinking and amplifying our more terrifying characteristics. I don’t know how best to fight this, except with knowledge of what these assholes are up to. Thanks for this site. I hope more people see it.

Hagee again, oh my! I really love that image, but regretfully cannot take credit for it. Alas, I found it on a Google image search for Hagee images, and believe that it was called “Hageeageddon”, or perhaps that was the article it accompanied. Great work here, BTW, I’m very happy to have found your site!

Lex — I made that image. I did not copyright it by intention — I wanted it to spread. Best, BW
