Conservababes Pix #1: General Stupid
[I’m on vacation right now, so here is a quick post I wrote in advance. Feel free to discuss it among yourselves.]

There’s some sort of conservative web forum called Conservababes. I haven’t spent much time looking at it, but it looks completely unremarkable. However, I did discover that they have an image gallery. The gallery is remarkable—for having some of the worst anti-science images I’ve ever seen. To honor this accomplishment, we’re going to spend the entire week examining the gallery. Let’s start with the generally stupid pictures today.
It starts out innocently enough. There are a bunch of pictures like this:

They’re all labelled “Beauty of Creation”. That’s fine, if that’s how they want to interpret our magnificent planet. However, the beauty of our planet isn’t proof that it was created.
I don’t know if they think this next one is some sort of proof, or if they think it’s just a fun coincidence.

In that same vein, they have this one:

It’s unlabeled, but it’s obviously God’s hemorrhoid.
This one is ironic:

It’s the creationists who have the smallest conception of the enormity of the universe. While it is true that nobody (except Zaphod Beeblebrox) can truly comprehend just how mind-bogglingly big the universe is, those of us who actually pay attention to scientists when they talk at least have a vague notion of just how big it really is.
Creationists? They can’t comprehend its size at all. If they did, they wouldn’t think that the entire universe was created just for them.
They also have a bunch of Darwin quote mines. They’re all pretty much alike. They take things Darwin said out of context to make it look like he didn’t even believe his own theory. Here is just one example:

Finally, here are a couple of related pictures that make me quiver in my boots. I think this first one is the original:

I guess somebody thought that was so funny (or converted so many people) that it was worth re-treading it and bringing it out again:

I give up! Take them away! They’re too scary! I’m ready to say the sinner’s prayer now!
[Come back tomorrow for some more great images from Conservababes!]

What I don’t understand is how they use the vastness of space as proof of a God that created it. I mean, most of it’s empty, and, of what isn’t empty, almost all is utterly uninhabitable. Seems rather haphazard, doesn’t it?

Of those Darwin quotes, this one seems to me to be the most stupid of them all. It’s not that it’s quote-mined, it’s actually that it shows that whoever put it up there didn’t know how to read. The parts he bolded are saying the complete opposite of what the text as a whole is saying.

The best part of those last comics is that atheists have been poked by god’s finger a total number of zero times in real life. He’s slacking compared to his comic likeness.
Also, the second one changed the question mark to an exclamation point, which makes no sense to me. Not that it should, considering the source.

PL77: Exactly. And they don’t understand proper use of punctuation marks any more than they understand copyright law, I suppose.
If a giant hand of a god came down from the clouds and poked me on the face, I’d believe! That’s the issue, isn’t it? That God does not exist except within the minds of his worshipers, but we’re all expected to accept him as real.

The star pictures are not a proper argument for g0d!!! every good xtain knows they are not real. They are only pretty pictures placed above the sky and orbiting the earth as a temptation away from the truth of the buyBull!! The people who do this web sight are not xtians!!! most likely another bunch of satan-spawn!!!

Not me; I’d welcome our new overlords from the planet Digitalia.
(I’m still waiting for the emissaries from Phallusia to show up.)

I wish God (if he exists) would poke me and say, “Atheist huh?”
That would be evidence of his existence.
Sadly, God has never done that. So, the cartoon seems pretty stupid in light of that fact.

Two points for the Douglas Adams reference.
