Oh but sir, excuse me. Bravo.

He's an ass-hole, but god damn, do I love that son of a bitch. Whether he be right or wrong, he entertained me more in that few minutes than most recent american sit-coms would.

My sides actually hurt. Good times.

I don't completely agree with Cabbie. Although I'm with him about Hitchens being unlikely to make any converts, I think Hitchens won in the sense that he called Hannity on the real reason for having him on the show: to give him a dressing down. Other than that, I totally agree with you guys. I remember seeing him on Bill Maher's show being a rabid defender of the Iraq war, and wondering how anyone could be this blind. I guess he's just an articulate fat male version of Ann Coulter with a British accent.

Excellent analysis, Cabbie. I agree with you completely. We'd be better off without Hitchens. I don't think he's actually able to convince anyone. He's really just part of the show that is 24-hour cable news these days. It's just a spectacle. Each side watches and roots for their guys.

He's a fun spectacle (at times), but he's nothing more than that.

While I agree with almost everything Hitchens said, I don't think he won that particular exchange, for the simple reason that Hitchens is an asshat. An extraordinary intellect on the topic of religion, but an asshat nonetheless. And I say this as someone who agrees with what he says!

The problem with him is that he readily jumps to use words and phrases that detract from his main point by inflaming the emotions of those he's speaking to. Using carcass, for example. It served no purpose but to incite. Those listening who favor the belief in the Cosmic Muffin won't hear him regardless of how he chooses his words, those of us who prefer reality will listen and get a nice chuckle out of it, but the vast middle ground will immediately turn from hearing his points, because they are too busy hearing his words.

And if his arguments are falling on deaf ears, then there is no point to making those arguments. Mr. Hitchens becomes the star of the show, and not his brilliant dissection of organized religion.

That was awesome. All Hannity had to say was that Hitchens was a big meanie and Hitchens showed the world what a fool Hannity is.
