Will This Quitter Win?

I’m at TAM 7 right now and can’t post, so I’ve scheduled a few amusing pictures to run as cheap filler. So what do you think about this loser? Her buckling at the first criticism and running away to hide probably won’t phase her die-hard supporters. How soon before she’s visiting Iowa? How far in the primary will she get?

Sarah Palin

Hopefully Something Awful stops her before that.

Palin’s history. She aint coming back.

Let’s focus on real battlegrounds.Texas, for instance. The Governer Goodhair vs KBH race gets all the attention, but Texas has good chance of sending a Dem to the US Senate. Houston mayor Bill White is the strongest player in the field so far.

I’m not so sure. She still has a great deal of support among the open-mouthed respiratory crowd – the people who think Obama’s a “Mooslim”, and therefore a terrorist.

(My apologies to those with deviated septums.)

Oh, she’s coming back. Will anybody listen to her other than the hardcore? No. But she’s coming back.

If there were a deity to whom I felt the need to pray, I would beam as many brain-waves into the sky as I could asking for Sarah Palin to be the GOP nominee in 2012. I guess its really not so far-fetched an idea. After all, who do Republican have to turn to to try and beat Obama? Mark Sandford? Bobby Jindal? Newt Gingrich?

I may loathe everything that the far-right in this country stands for, but when it comes to GOP politics, I’m glad they’re around to make sure only the craziest motherfuckers they can find get nominated, clearing the way for a far more reasonable opponent to win. I’m just savoring the image in my mind of an Obama-Palin debate…..

Brian – It’s far too early to predict the Republican primary field. Will Palin be there? I’m pretty sure. Will Sanfodrd, Jindal, or Newty be there? Maybe. Will any of them win the primary? Probably not. They have another three years to find a “moderate” (heavy irony quotes there) who might appeal to a larger audience a la Reagan. It’s funny now, but I’m not ready to get complacent. I must say, however, that if Palin wins the nomination, the GOP will go the way of the Whigs. It will. It wouldn’t be a matter of if anymore, it would be only a matter of time.

I’ve always thought Frank Rich’s columns were more perceptive than most, and this one addresses this very topic.
